Hurray! I have finally finished my project. I think it is an alright piece of art. I definitely could do some improvement, like I made the reference lines too dark, so they didn’t erase very well, but all in all, I think it is ok an I am alright with turning this is as my final. I am not going to lie, this was seriously hard. In the beginning, I had no idea what I was going to do. Whether I was going to make a row of triangles, alternating in size, or diagonal rows of triangle (all of which I didn’t even use), I just could not decide what I wanted to do. But it all worked out in the end. A plan finally hit me and I created this. I think it fits the assignment, movement with shapes, because though my shading and sizing of the different triangles, I have created the illusion of moving closer and further away from the paper. I think what I like best about his drawing is that on one side of the paper I have a grouping of three rows of triangles, but then on the other side of the paper, there is another row, but this row is going a different way than the others. It is surprising, I guess, because I think our eyes expect the triangles to go in the same direction they have been going in, but they don’t.

_ Normal 0 Ok, so here is the thing, I changed up the design yet again. I know, I know, I thought I had finally come up with a plan, a genius plan, but I was just sitting in math one day, and a better plan hit me! Instead of doing the sketch that I had done before, I decided I would start with a dark, large triangle, and then move in one direction, either left or right, and the triangles would not only get smaller, but also they would get lighter to. So light in fact that you can not even see the smallest one. I think that this sketch really creates movement the best out all the previous sketches because it creates the illusion of moving closer and further away from the paper. I am happy with this concept. I hope it turns out not only better than this sketch, but matches what I had imagined in my head. I am hoping that all this hard work, frustration with the project, the several millions of sketches I have created, and then finally changing my concept at the last minute pays off!

As always, please, please wish me luck that I create something good!!

_ Normal 0 Hurray! I have finally, after so so so so many sketches and so so so so many ideas, found my concept! I have to be honest, it is not my mor favorite piece I have or ever will create, but I think need some kudos for finally buckling down and deciding on an idea. I used the triangles, like I have decided to do at the very beginning. But then I used two other ideas that I had started in my very first few sketches. I used, in addition to the triangles, the idea of lining the triangles up diagonally instead of vertically. Then I also used my plan of alternating triangle sizes, but instead of going big, small, big, small, I did one line of all big triangles, and the next line all small triangles, then the third line was big triangles, but slightly smaller than the biggest but bigger than the smallest, and so forth. I think I can definitely improve on this sketch. My lines could be straighter, my triangles could be more consistent. I guess you could say there are a lot of things to improve upon. But let us not lose sight of the fact that I have come up with a concept!

_ Normal 0 To be completely honest, I do not have a design yet. I have tried just about everything I could think of. I know I want to use triangles, I just do not know how to use them. I have tried alternating triangles in a line. Then I tried small and big triangles in random order. Then Mr. Meserve showed me a different way of lining up the triangles. Instead of horizontal, I lined them up diagonally. I still wasn’t feeling any inspiration from any of my sketches. This is a seriously hard project. I do not know at all what I am going to do. I probably will not even come up with a concept until the very last minute. The only way I can improve on this project is to FIRST come up with a serious idea that I can actually be ok with turning in. Even if I am not ok turning it in, I just want a concept. I am not sure how or when I will get this concept, but it will come. I will definitely have a project to show for all this hard work and frustration.

Well, just wish me luck for the rest of this project!

Ok, here’s the low down. Last week around Thursday or Friday, we
art and design folk began working on our next project. The plan for this project
is to create movement again, but using repeating shapes over and over and over
again until you get that movement aspect. For this project, I am not exactly
clear on what I am going to do. I have in my mind that I want to use triangles…
I do not know why, but that is the shape I know I want to use. I think I am
going to have to just draw a bunch of different ideas until I see something I
like. I can already tell that this project is not going to be as easy as the
last one. But I guess art wouldn’t be that exciting if it was not difficult
every now and then. I have some ideas, like making rows of triangles. Or
slanting them diagonally (thanks Meserve for that inspiration). But two things I
know for sure, I am going to have to draw a million sketches until I make
something I like and this is not at all, no matter what going to be an easy
task.

I am finally done with the movement project. I think it turned out pretty good. I am happy with the final result. If you look at the design on the paper, you will get the illusion of the paper folding, and turning, and even being pinch in some spots. I think my placement of the lines really helped create those illusions. I know this is a successful design because it turned out how I wanted it to look and it looks like it has movement, which was the idea behind the assignment. I also created the illusion of close and far away lines. I made some lines very, very dark while the other lines were pretty light in comparison. Because I did this, the light lines look as though they are far, far, far, far away and the dark lines are super-duper close! Like I said before, I am happy with my end result. It came out like I wanted it to. The lines could have been more precise, but I still like it. It is a very visually pleasing project and kind of mind blowing. If it weren’t for help from the book and Mr. Meserve, I don’t know where I would have been with my concept!

Ok, so here is my final sketch. This wasn’t actually my original design. But I dropped it into a puddle, so I had to start over. My original design looked too much like the example form the book. I wasn’t creative enough… But now I have created this, still what I was hoping for, but more original. So what I did was I made one group of the lines in one corner, and then made a V shaped group at the bottom. I really like this sketch because not only does the paper look like it is turning, but it also looks like it is being pinched at the bottom. I think that this sketch is more successful than what I was doing before because it isn’t what was in the book, so it is my design, not someone else’s, which is pretty successful, I think! Like I said before, I need to improve my accuracy. I sort of got a little lazy and just started making lines, so they were not connecting like I had hoped to make them. Also I plan on making the lines closer together, making the boxes in between the lines a lot closer together as well. I think the final will turn out to be pretty good!

Ok, so I added onto the original sketch. I think it is really starting to come together. The lines are overlapping like I wanted them to, and the movement is really starting to show. To get to this stage, I did the exact same thing that I did to one side (several lines evenly measured apart connecting one side of the page to the other) but in the opposite corner. I think this design is a whole lot better because it really creates more movement than the original sketch. The overlap of the two sides really creates depth and movement. Even though this is not a complete project yet, it is already starting to look how I hoped it would. Well, I plan on creating the other two sides and then I will have a completed project. Also, I think I could improve on the accuracy of my lines and hiding my reference points (the little dots on the sides of the paper) a little better! I definitely have a lot more work to do. I think that once I start my final, I will be more accurate with my lines, making them straighter and connecting the sides better. But for now, I am happy with the turnout!
